Teaching and Learning Foreign Languages and ESL

The Office of Teaching and Learning Foreign Languages and ESL is responsible for teaching and learning management in foreign languages and ESL  categorized as general education courses.  These language courses cover languages of ASEAN countries: Burmese, Lao, Cambodian, Vietnamese, Bahasa Malayu; and other languages: English, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Arabic.

Teaching and learning management in these language courses deal with practices in four skills with emphasis on productive skills in speaking and writing.  Performance-based assessment is required at the end of each course to ensure that learners be able to communicate their intended meanings in the real language context with functional accuracy and fluency.

LANGUAGE COURSES:

                   Development of basic English communication skills including listening, speaking, reading, and writing; practice in listening to short phrases and sentences; basic conversation in everyday life; proper pronunciation according to phonetic rules; learning enhanced with standard computer software for development of basic conversation and handling of basic interactions.

Further development of English communication skills covering listening, speaking, reading, and writing at the intermediate level; cultural action of native speakers; intermediate level grammar; learning enhanced with standard software that develops necessary skills in sharing ideas, voicing opinion, expressing feeling, and speaking in everyday life.

Further development of  speaking skills in various situations; making complex dialogue; expressing opinion; proper communication in tourism-related contexts within native culture; practice in English language skills through standard software by discussing topics related to entertainment, culture, government, and the market place.
902-111  English 4 
Acquisition of  more advanced English communication skills including listening, speaking, reading and writing; practice in listening, conversation, debating, article reading, making summary or conclusion; English idioms; writing for specific purposes and presentation.

Further development of effective writing abilities through textual, visual, and electronically-mediated literacies; application of analytical/critical-thinking and problem-solving skills to evaluation of materials and data in composing writing pieces; learning to embrace the concept of intellectual integrity.

                   Further development of effective writing abilities through complex demands of textual, visual, and electronically-mediated literacies; further develop and apply higher order critical thinking as well as reflective thinking skills and problem-solving skills in evaluating materials and ideas; combining, reasoning, and synthesizing ideas and information in writing pieces while demonstrating intellectual integrity.

                   Development of English communication skills for occupational purposes; salutation; making appointment; conversing on telephone; delivering services; buying and selling products and services, demonstrating products; reading product instruction and business correspondence; reading graphs, figures, tables, and diagram; writing and making sense of electronic message.

                   Development of English communication skills in the hospitality industry context; welcoming and receiving guests; organizing functions; activity demonstration, traveling; giving information about venue and facilities; reading and writing signs, symbols and hospitality business correspondence; practice in reading graphs, figures, tables, and diagrams in hospitality work; handling complaints; communication through social media.
